Diversify Your Menu Of Services

It has been said that “People who do more spa services tend to spend more money. They will buy the better tanning packages and lotions. They are looking for a high caliber experience.” Incorporating spa treatments into your menu will help strengthen your bottom line by encouraging your customers to visit your salon year-round for a unique experience and selection of products.

When salon owners think of spa treatments, they most likely envision an army of employees that will need to come on board – as well as additional inventory that would need to be stocked. The truth is there are many self-service machines that fit well into the limited staffing that a tanning salon traditionally follows. Many of the after-care products also fall in line with the tanning brands available today. Yes, you might want to offer additional selections to your product shelves but there is no need to go crazy.

One thing to keep in mind, high traffic tanning days would not be the ideal situation for calming spa services, try to keep a rotating schedule so that the noise and aromas of heavy tanning will not interfere with the experience that many clients are seeking.

When you are marketing your add-on services, you will be best served by highlighting them separately from your tanning ads. Targeting to your spa customers specifically will help draw in customers who are not looking for that perfect golden glow, and vice-versa. HOWEVER – once any customer enters your salon give them a tour of your entire facility and let them know that you incorporate a full range of ways to help them look and feel beautiful!

You might be asking yourself “Exactly what sort of services should I add?” The answer to that question actually depends on a few things: how much space do you have to work with, have your customers been asking for anything in particular, do you want to add additional employees and what is your overall budget?

Are clients talking about wanting to improve the wrinkles and fine lines of their skin? Do they know people that would benefit from Red Light Therapy? Taking up no more space than an existing low-pressure tanning bed, you could easily re-lamp the bed for red-light bulbs and offer a non-tanning option for improving the appearance (and natural functions) of the skin. You do need to be aware of compatibility and area regulations, however, this is probably the easiest service to add into your existing menu.

Ionic Foot Bath

The Ionic Foot Detox is a great way to increase services and improve the health of your customers. No certification is required. You set everything up, explain the process to your customer, then you are free for the next 30 minutes. After the session, you perform a quick foot-rinse for the client, clean up and get ready for the next session. You could easily set up 2 or 3 units in the same area, maximizing your space, time and budget!

Men and women of all ages would benefit from inch-loss technology. With a machine like the LED My-Lipo, you could add a powerful draw to your menu. Once you demonstrate how easy it is to use, your customer places the paddles and operates the machine, leaving you free to tend to other business. Inch loss is safe and effective AND it takes a relatively small space to set up (just need a small equipment stand and a massage table, plus space to change).
